HOLIDAYS!

Officially, teachers' holiday starts last Saturday!

Saturday:
Went to Vivo city. The place is huge. Didn't do much, just walk around and then had dinner. It was so crowded and parking was close to impossible.

Sunday:
Went to Church, gosh I was blessed! Paster Prince is back. Celebrated my bf birthday in advance with his family in the evening and then went to the Night Safari with him as a celebration.

Pretty fun to see the animals at night. Some places were really dark and scary to walk. Wondered when an animal would pounce onto you. Really disliked the Indian Gharials - HUGE crocodiles. Was freaking out when I was near them. The Otter and mousedeer were simply adorable.

Monday:
Trained my junior girls, so few players. Couldn't play 5 on 5 so had to play 3 on 3. Hope more turn up on Wednesday.

Slept through the afternoon as I was so tired after the night safari. Awoke to collect my air tickets to Vietnam, then caught the moive "Step Up" in the evening. Wanted to watch it earlier but didn't have the time. The dance moves were really terrific. I would never be able to dance like that.... or dance..... haha..

Tuesday:
Going out with the rest of the P4 teachers for lunch. Have a meeting with the Yew Tee Netball team and I've asked Esther to accompany me there.

It would be a blessed week for JESUS is in my life!

Outstanding Youth in Education Award

Was in the CCK library again today. For those who have not seen my previous entries... I'm pretty much of a book worm.

Anyway, as I entered CCK library today, something caught my eye. It was located at the pamphlet/magazine stand near the counter. A nomination form for outstanding Youth in Education Award. It gives recognition to young teachers. Finally something to credit young teachers instead of crediting experienced ones all the time.

Nothing wrong with older teachers, they are respectable and role models for young teachers like me to learn from. However, we younger teachers do need some motivation and encourgement to keep going. Many teachers are quitting the service to take on other jobs.

Those interested to nominate your favourite young teachers. (under 30 years old) you can get a form from the library or online http://www.nyc.pa.gov.sg/oyea.html

We Won!

Glad to have a rest day and need not go to work today. Woke up in the morning for a massage at Woodlands Civic Centre. NICE! Felt really relaxed.

Had MAC for lunch!!! Cant believe I actually ate that... fattening stuff. Guess I only regret after eating. The last time I had that was months ago.

Evening was when all the action started. The annual inter-ministry basketball compeition.

MOE (Ministry of Education)
MHA (Ministry of Home Affairs)
Mindef(Ministry of Defence)

Men's competition:
MOE Team1 vs MHA Team1
MOE Team2 vs Mindef

(MOE men lost both games)
MOE Men's team1 to team3 are all out of the competition

For the last 2 years, MOE men's and ladies had been double champion.... no longer this year. (At least the ladies' team still is the champion team)

Ladies' competition:Finals
MOE Team1 vs MHA (MOE WON!!!)

Before my game started, I was afraid tonight would be MOE losing night. MHA ladies had always been a tough opponent. We lost once along the way and dropped to loser pool.

Both Meihui and I wasn't around for that game. I had to bring my pupils to BAS. Meihui had club competition that day. I was afraid we might lose today especially since I didn't get to see how good they are this year.

It seems, MHA did not have all their players. However, one of their player was from my club team. Since she was a police, naturally she has to play for MHA.

1st quarter MHA was leading with 4 points. We decided to change from Zone defence to Man - man defence. By half time, we were leading by 2 pts. Not at all a comfortable lead.

Fortunately, we widen the lead in the 3rd & 4th quarter.
MOE 28- MHA 18 (what a low scoring game!)

Yeah, 3rd consecative championship. Praise God!

Thoughts after the camp..

2 babes with 2 hunks

I was glad to be at the camp. I've taught some pupils when they were in P4 and P5 (P4A, 4E, 5E, 5G). However, I was most thankful to be able to attend the graduation camp because my senior basketball girls were there.

This would the 1st team I started which I would be sending off to Sec Sch... How I would really miss them...

I hope they know that I love them and treasure them. They are truely amazing in bringing me joy. (anger/disappointment at times too)

The camp was tiring though I barely did anything but use my "eye power". (And tried the luge for the 1st time, FUN! ) We had wonderful instructors who never failed to put me at ease with the way they controlled and guided the pupils.

They are efficient, energetic, flexible, responsible and caring instructors. Although many are younger than I, they have the maturity which I very much respect. I observed how the instructors cared for those under their charge and was very much impressed. (Though I would like to name some instructors who made an impact, I felt it won't be fair to those I didn't have the opportunity to watch in action.)

From the camp, I also learnt more about some teachers. (which I would not disclosed) As I don't work much with P6 teachers, this was an opportunity to know what they are like. I truely enjoyed their company and many of these teachers won my admiration in their own special ways.

I've always knew people can be very different. Now I'm wiser to know that different people have different ways to cope/react in difficult situations. Some of you may know that on arriving, living conditions for teachers in the camp were not that ideal. (though I didn't mind abit) However, I was truely astonished at how resourceful the teachers were and quickly (within a day) made the place more homely.

Soon it would be the holidays. Though teachers would still need to return for meetings after meetings to plan for the following year, pupils won't be around. When the P6 return during the holidays, it would be to collect their result. That would probably be the last time I would see some of them.

Please remember to provide me with tissue paper (if you see me) for I promise you I would cry. I know I would miss many of you. (perhaps unlike older teachers, I've not seen many P6 pupils grad.) It really does hurt knowing that you may no longer be part of my life. (or perhaps I just cry easily....)

Wondered why I became a teacher? I always believed that God put me here, in this job, in this school. I didn't choose anything. It all came to me... The last time I chose something... it was the worst choice I made in my life.

Now I learn, let Him decide. I just pray. He will show me the way. So far, I've been blessed. He has showed my more favours than I can hope for. He has taught me how to love... especially His little ones... at times when they are not so lovable.

I am a teacher for My Lord Jesus was the greatest teacher this world ever had.

In His footsteps, I shall follow.
